RIEGL VZ-i APP Kinematic | A new approach to kinematic data acquisition

At the past Expomin 2023, we had the opportunity to host representatives from RIEGL, who presented the latest developments in the RIEGL VZ-i LiDAR series for their VZ-2000i and VZ-400i models.

One of the notable developments is the Kinematic APP, which presents a new approach for kinematic data acquisition from a static topographic device, by optimizing the trajectory from IMU, RIEGL GNSS RTK data and point cloud observations.

The latest version of the RiSCAN PRO static data processing software has the necessary algorithms to optimize the trajectory through point cloud processing, and from fixed GNSS RTK position captures, high accuracies in kinematic mode can be found, without the need to integrate an external high-cost inertial system unit.

The capture workflow consists of starting the Kinematic APP, fixing the GNSS position, and initiating the kinematic survey. This can be done in radar mode, where the laser scanner head rotates 360° horizontally, at a rate of 1 revolution every 3 seconds, allowing for greater coverage in all directions during the traverse; speeds of up to 10 km/h are recommended. Additionally, the fixed scanning mode can be configured in one direction, achieving the highest capture performance and spatial resolution, capturing with great detail the scanning area; in this case, speeds of up to 15 km/h are recommended.

This new Kinematic APP application is available for both new units and for customers who already have a VZ-400i and VZ-2000i device, enabling a new method of kinematic capture.
