Trimble Virtual World: An immersive geospatial continuous training proposal
One of the most frequent requests we receive from our colleagues has to do with the need for an emulator for topographic instrument software. Many geospatial professionals consider it extremely important to fully understand how to get the most out of this type of tool, therefore, they are concerned about keeping up-to-date, at least, in the use of the software by knowing its different functionalities. However, this type of interaction does not allow emulating the conditions offered by the terrain, leaving aside the most important part of topographic activity and relegating the study to the mere incorporation of unconnected knowledge associated exclusively with a software package.
On the other hand, carrying out field training requires a certain command of the operating software of the instrument in question. Many times, the interaction in the field itself causes a lack of concentration, leading to an unproductive process in some cases. Not to mention large groups when there are few instruments: the end result is an unsatisfactory experience for both parties.
One answer to these problems is associated with the virtual world. Recently, Trimble has been experimenting for quite some time with Trimble Virtual World, creating an integral continuous training space for the geospatial industry through interaction in virtual scenarios where it is possible to move around using total stations and GNSS with Trimble Access.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the simulation, which accurately emulates observations from GNSS receivers and total stations within a topographic context," says Álvaro Arancibia, GNSS & Optical Support Engineer at GEOCOM. One of the things he highlights about Trimble Virtual World is its versatility, as it allows for individual or group training anytime, anywhere, as long as there is an internet connection. In addition, it allows showing best practices and workflows for using Trimble Access, without the costs and risks associated with field work, avoiding the exposure of operators and instruments during the learning process, which is a great advantage.
"Another advantage of Trimble Virtual World is that it allows operators to prepare for specific terrain conditions or to apply new methodologies," asserts Álvaro Arancibia. On the platform, you can experiment with the latest software and hardware features, planning visits to a specific environment and reinforcing the incorporation of new knowledge. This is very useful for getting a clear idea of what to expect in field work, giving instructions to operators, and being better prepared for any situation that may arise.

In summary, Trimble Virtual World is an efficient solution that offers comprehensive tools for training in geospatial technologies, thanks to its training tools and simulation quality.
