Due to the severe environmental crisis caused by the use of fossil fuels, the demand for clean energy has exponentially increased worldwide in recent years, and solar energy is taking center stage in this green energy revolution. In the last 10 years, global installed solar energy capacity has increased by 1,500%.
To maintain the production of solar plants and ensure they continue to operate at maximum efficiency, periodic inspections of photovoltaic panels must be carried out, checking for damage or dirt, which reduce the efficiency and profitability of the plant.
These inspections were traditionally done manually, but today the use of drones with thermal cameras has been massively incorporated, which greatly contributes to the productivity of inspection tasks, reducing fieldwork time by 98%.
Through the DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone and its Zenmuse H20T camera, thermal and visual images are captured simultaneously to identify hot spots on solar panels, which can indicate electrical and non-electrical problems. Then, using specialized software for data analysis, defective areas are identified and located, and a precise report with instructions for maintenance teams is generated.
