Metrology without limits: Digitizing large structures with Scanology KSCAN-X

In the world of manufacturing and industrial maintenance, size matters. Recently, the Reality Capture GEOCOM team tested the potential of the KSCAN-X in a new Geocom Experience, taking on the challenge of digitizing a 7-meter long mechanical part.

The result was not only accurate capture, but a demonstration of how freedom of movement and technical power can transform traditional workflows.

 

Total freedom: Cable-free and long-range

One of the biggest frictions in scanning large components is the logistics of cables and power supply. The KSCAN-X breaks these barriers with its fully wireless and portable technology. During this experience, we were able to operate at a distance of up to 2.5 meters from the part, allowing for fluid and safe movement around the structure.

 

Efficiency with every laser burst

How is it possible to digitize 7 meters in record time? The key lies in the ultra-wide field of view (2.6 x 1.8 m). This feature drastically reduces the need to apply physical markers, which is often the bottleneck in large-scale projects.
In addition, the team adapted its power according to the required level of detail using its three measurement modes:
  • Large Area Mode: 84 laser lines for massive coverage.
  • Medium Area Mode: 54 laser lines for a balance between speed and detail.
  • Hole Mode: A single laser line designed to capture the internal geometry of perforations.
