Trimble Inertial Platform technology is based on the implementation of an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) in the Trimble R12i receiver with the aim of using information from acceleration sensors (accelerometers) and rotation sensors (gyroscopes), as well as GNSS measurements, to determine the position, rotation, and tilt of the instrument to compensate the position of the tip of the survey pole within a GNSS reference frame.

Unlike the Trimble SurePoint technology included in previous models (R10 and R12), which used a magnetometer, the IMU is not affected by local electromagnetic sources and is not limited to only 15° of tilt for positioning compensation.

In combination with Trimble ProPoint technology, introduced with the launch of the R12 receiver, it allows compensation for tilted positions even in challenging GNSS observation environments.

Positioning compensation using the R12i's IMU applies to RTK surveys via any correction transmission medium: Internet and radio. It also applies to RTX surveys via satellite or Internet.

The best thing about this solution is that the RTK base does not need to be an R12i receiver; TIP technology only applies to the rover. You only need a modern GNSS base with the ability to track multiple constellations and signals.
