Expomin, Postergación edición 2020

As a result of the above, the event will take place in the coming months, tentatively aiming for the last quarter of this year, which is expected to be confirmed as soon as possible.

At the time, the Minister of Mining, Baldo Prokurica, announced the decision to postpone Expomin, "due to the reality the world is experiencing with the coronavirus." The Secretary of State assured that "we support the decision to postpone this important event as a way to safeguard the health of Chileans, of those participating in the Fair, and of our main asset in mining, which is people."

He added that "for this reason, we prefer to avoid the emergence of contagion cases through a massive event." "Expomin 2020 brings together international powers such as the United States, China, Germany, Canada, Spain, Australia, Korea, Japan, among others. To this, we must consider the impact that the coronavirus has had in other countries around the world, which has led to the postponement of sports and music events and the closing of borders in some of them. This means searching for a new calendar that allows for the greatest participation of the international delegations participating during 2020," emphasized the Secretary of State. The manager of Expomin, Francisco Sotomayor, stated, "as an organization, we want to reaffirm our commitment to the mining sector, one of the most relevant in our country."

"That is why we call for a joint effort to launch a new edition of this exhibition, which we know is a Latin American showcase that contributes to the economic development and employment of our country."

Sotomayor stated that "although we as a sector are facing a difficult time today, we have readjusted the agenda so that as an industry we do not lose this important space for promotion and business development."

He explained that as organizers, "we are looking for the best date for the event with the full support of the government, our strategic partners in the sector, exhibitors, sponsors, and patrons."

Meanwhile, the president of the Congress, Francisco Costabal, said, "for mining companies, people's health is paramount, and being consistent with all the ways in which we act in all our operations, we must also project it to the community."

"That is why we sincerely support the decision to avoid contagions and keep this virus as far away as possible. The postponement of Expomin is not what we wanted, but given the current situation, it is what must be done for the people who are part of the sector."
